Parker Richards (Bellwether 2002-2008)

Parker is Nantucket High School's February Student of the Month!

From his teacher nomination: "Parker is always going beyond what is asked of him. He accepts extra challenges and is not afraid to be a champion. Parker has demonstrated his desire to better himself through his experiences here at NHS. He exemplifies the qualities of a life-long learner and understands the integrity in putting forth effort and doing your best. These qualities are topped only by his respect of and courtesy to those around him."

Parker's essay on Christopher Columbus was recently selected to represent the state of Massachusetts at the National D.A.R. Essay Competition.

Winston Cadwell (Bellwether 2009-2010)

Words from his mother, Elizabeth: "Our son, Winston, attended Bellwether in the fourth grade. After attending a Reggio-style preschool, he spent 4 1/2 years in a public school setting. Being a particularly able student, the pace of the regular classroom wasn't always what we hoped it would be. (He fared well academically, but was losing some of his joy for learning.) Coming to Bellwether renewed his self-confidence and strengthened his sense of connectedness to others. Although we returned to our home town for his fifth grade year (primarily due to distance), he carried the Bellwether spirit with him. Now in his sixth grade year he is full of enthusiasm for all that he is learning. His eyeslight up when he shares his work, so I believe we are on the right path.

Yesterday, as I read the poem in the Bellwether Newsletter, The Wethervane, written by Jackson, I thought 'Yes...this is exactly what The Bellwether School enables its students to do: to view the world with gentle and accurate eyes, to take the time to notice subtleties and engage in relationship, and to practice compassion in the world.' It has been an unusual journey for us, but Bellwether helped us all learn much about the art of graceful transitioning and living. With an open mind and heart, we look forward to all that lies ahead. Thanks, Bellwether...!"

Graham Raubvogel (Bellwether 1999-2003)

Graham has been making fovies for years!  In 2006, he began interning at CCTV as a cameraman, and eventually director, of the live thirty-minute show, “Live at 5:25.” Since then, he has directed numerous short films, documentaries, and music videos, taking first place at the Santa Monica Teen Film Festival as well as “Best Student Short” at the Vermont International Film Festival (a category in which he was the only high school filmmaker competing against college submissions).  His work has been screened at many other film festivals nationwide, including Frameline, the world’s most prominent LGBT film festival, and NFFTY, the world’s largest youth film festival.  In 2011, he won a Merit Award from the National Foundation for Advancement in the Arts for his work.

We encourage you to check out his website, www.grahamraubvogel.com, to view his films and learn more.
